What's in a name?

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Yeah, that's right, Shakespeare quote as the title. Reppin' the culture. So a couple of weeks ago I got something exciting in the post and meant to blog about it then, but for some reason, didn't. Anyway, I love getting post. I mean good post, from friends not bills or letters from my University asking me for my details for the third or fourth time this year. There is something lovely about the idea that someone has thought of you and I think handwritten letters mean so much more than facebook messages or emails, however speedy they might be in comparison. Anyway, this wasn't from someone I know but I'm going to big her up anyway because I can.

This is my present! I bought it from here, Sunday Girl Accessories. I heard about them on someones fashion blog ages ago and bookmarked them for Christmas present ideas. But instead bought one for me. Anyway, it's great, so if you ever need gift ideas or just want something unique and lovely for yourself, then that is the place to go. It's nice to receive things that are nicely packaged, it makes it even more aesthetically pleasing.

In other news, I can't believe a woman in LA had 8 babies. Having 8 kids isn't that crazy but at the same time? 8 babies to look after? That is mental.

Sick. And not in the 'sick mate' way.

I feel like I have been punched in the stomach hundreds of times. Food poisoning is not a fun thing to have. Especially when you have emptied your stomach by being sick, but yet are still being sick. So now I've actually stopped being sick, my stomach muscles have well and truly failed and my back is still in 'bent over the toilet' mode. Good things however are my mum being wonderful, Jonathan Ross being back on the BBC and OH YEAH NEW LOST WHICH I'M ABOUT TO WATCH IN HD.

Wonderful Websites #1

Me & My Friends #2

Kimberley Masters

Kim Masters is incredibly talented. She is a very clever artist and writer and is one of the only people who could rival me in a quote off. During our 7 years of friendship, she has brought many wonderful things & memories into my life! We made friends when we worked together at a hands on science place in Weymouth called Discovery. Our job was literally so easy. We hardly did anything apart from press some buttons on a till occasionally, and we were so naughty in that job. We would invite friends to just come to our shifts with us simply because it was just like hanging out rather than work. Kim's boyfriend Dan deserves a mention here as most of the time I would turn up on a Saturday or Sunday and he would be there doing college work, or helping Kim with a delivery. We listened to wicked music when we shouldn't have, we played Boink Wars (not as dodgy as it sounds), we dressed up little bendy men (again, not as dodgy as it sounds), we played consequences and a host of other dastardly deeds. It was and will remain the best job ever, mainly because she was there! Kim and I also took part in what was known as the Best Day Ever, 5th October 2003 when we went to a geek convention known as Collectormania and stood in a very long queue and met Dominic Monaghan & Elijah Wood. Sean Astin also had a little chat with us and Andy Serkis waved at us through a window. So, to sum up: we were massive Lord Of The Rings geeks. G33ks. Lol. 4 lyf.

Kim is also a talented illustrator, and here are some of her drawings:

& here is a photo that she took of a snowflake on Dan's hair. I think it's one of the best things I've ever seen.

So there we go, beautiful Kimberley.

Massively Great Quotes #6

"Your handwriting, the way you walk. Which china pattern you choose. It's all giving you away. Everything you do shows your hand. Everything is a self portrait. Everything is a diary."

Wicked Cool Bands #3

"Well, diamonds they fade
And flowers they bloom
And I'm telling you
These feelings won't go away
They've been knockin' me sideways
"
-Sideways, Citizen Cope

image from google images

You've probably heard the song Sideways by Citizen Cope on some sort of media outlet in the last 5 years. The song has been featured in films (Ghost Town) and TV shows (Scrubs, One Tree Hill) at that point at the end when all the emotions come to the forefront and you see all the characters pondering their existence and running their hands through their hair all pent up. You know the bit.

Anyway, described by his official website as "an intensely powerful lyricist", Citizen Cope is one man (real name Clarence Greenwood) who emenates class in his music. It's a blend of jazz and blues, mixed with funk at times, and his voice is really unique. I have been listening to him alot recently after getting a couple of his albums some time last year, and I think he's wicked. I'd suggest you listen to Sideways, fall in love with it, then get your groove on to Contact or Let The Drummer Kick.

Happy New Year!

Happy 2009 everyone! Hope that you all had a great New Year, whatever you did, and where ever you were. My new year was spent in Weymouth, with my friends, dressed up as a clown, making friends with randoms and generally having a really great time. One of the main missions of the evening appeared to be getting my friend Vicky in as many photos with random fancy dress people as possible, which resulted in these photos:

So there we have it, 2009 has arrived. I don't think I'm going to be making any New Years Resolutions, as I usually have ruined them by mid January. Probably the usual eat healthy, be happy ideal. I would also like to have my life sorted by the end of 2009 so I'm not as happy to see the back of it as I was 2008.

Onwards & upwards!
